How can I get my Copyleaks similarity report in Canvas?

Accessing the Similarity Report

1. Log into Canvas as a student.

2. Select the course that contains your assignment.

3. From the left panel, select Assignments

4. Select the assignment.

5. On the right side of your assignment, select Submission Details

6. To view your Similarity Report, click on the similarity percentage (in the example, the score for plagiarism is 75.79%).

My instructor said my Copyleaks score is too high. How should I interpret the similarity report?

With Copyleaks Similarity Report, you can view your document's overall percentage of similar content. Additionally, they separate similar content into 3 categories: Identical, Minor Changes, and Paraphrased.

In the report, these categories are broken down by different percentages. They can be customized to focus on precisely what you want to see.

From the top right-hand side of the Originality Report in Canvas is where you will be able to set filters which excludes quoted text, bibliographic entries, and small matches in this area. After you apply the filters, the similarity score will be recalculated.

It is important to note that Copyleaks will not evaluate the nature of the matches found. It will be your job to evaluate what the matches indicate. Because Copyleaks will flag properly cited material, a high similarity percentage does not always indicate plagiarism. Similarly, a paper with a low similarity index can still have strings of text that have been improperly cited. Instead of focusing on reaching a certain percentage, you should review the results by individual match.
