Author’s last name followed by a comma then the author’s initial of their first name and middle name (if there is one). For multiple authors use & before the last author listed.

 

Year within parentheses; if there is a month and date, put them after year followed by a period.

 

 

Title of the article.  Make sure it is all lower case except the first work, first word after a colon, and proper nouns.  The title is also italicized.  End with a period.

Title of the journal; all the major words are capitalized and it is italicized, followed by a comma.

Volume and issue number of the journal; volume italicized but the issue number is not italicized and in parentheses

Page numbers; (articles found in library databases are based on print materials so no need for a URL).  End the citation with a period and list doi (if available

 

*Notes: Do not include the URL if the article comes from a library database.  Dissertations (example provided on the right) don't follow this exact formula.
