MGT 315: Shepardize a Case in Nexis Uni

Sherpardize a Case

Shepardize a case: When you shepardize a case, you find "citing decisions" that refer to the original case. Those "citing decisions" may affirm, question, or overturn the original case. In order to do this:

  1. Access Nexis Uni.
  2. Select the Cases box.
  3. Select either Federal Cases or State Cases
  4. Type either the title of the case of keywords that describe the case.
  5. Click Search and select a case.
  6. Click the "Shepardize this Document" (right-hand side of the screen).

Shepard's Signal Indicators

The Shepard's Signal indicates are integrated into case law documents in order to provide an immediate indication of the subsequent history and treatment of a particular case. Not every case will have a Shepard's Signal indicator. But, when these codes are present, the database will display one of these signals.
